“Slovenia has once again shown that we are capable and have the knowledge to host sports competitions at the highest level,” said Enzo Smrekar, president of Ski Association of Slovenia and OC Planica, after the successful completion of the final inspection of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation FIS and the ceremonial start of pre-sales of multi-day tickets for the World Championships.
Michel Vion, Secretary General of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation FIS, also expressed his appreciation to the OC Planica team: "We are very satisfied with the work done by OC Planica. The team is well prepared. All we need now is snow and cold."
More than 50 representatives of foreign media from Europe and the world gathered in Planica, the venue of the world championship, together with high-ranking representatives of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation FIS. During the meeting of the association "Forum Nordicum", the organizers presented to the journalists and other guests the details of the most beautiful venue in the history of the Nordic world ski championships, the competition program and accompanying activities.
The ceremony at the start of pre-sale of tickets took place in the central building in Planica. Foreign guests tasted traditional Slovenian dishes "Taste Slovenia", which emphasizes the diversity of Slovenia's regions combining seasonal and local ingredients in an authentic and original way.
On this occasion, the association "Forum Nordicum" awarded a special award "Queen of Winter" to our ski jumper and two times gold Olympic medalist Urša Bogataj.
Planica and Kranjska Gora will host the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Planica 2023 next year, from February 21, 2023 to March 5, 2023. The interest in the biggest event in the history of the Republic of Slovenia is already extremely high.
